A new year is upon us and every January seems to be the time when most people look at their lives and make decisions about the changes they want to see for themselves for the upcoming year. Wellness and making healthy choices are at the top of a lot of lists as we remind ourselves how important it is for self-care. This becomes tough with the demands of work, family, friends, and the other demands and stressors in our daily lives. The weather here has also been a roller coaster of warmer weather to what feels like a deep freeze. It has encouraged time of rest, reminding us how important it is to take care of ourselves.

January always feels like a fresh start, a clean slate, but incorporating self-care into daily or weekly life is important at any point of the year and looks different for every person. Maybe it means taking time to read a good book, going for a workout, meditating, or something as simple as watching a movie on the couch with a cozy blanket. Whatever it means for you, it’s important to take time for you!

As this month is coming to an end, it can be easy to look back and wonder where the time has gone. “Blue Monday” happened on Jan. 15 and news reports claim it’s the ‘saddest’ day of the year, speaking to the financial stress left after the holidays combined with the cold weather, lack of sunlight, and failing of resolutions. These can add up and influence one’s emotional well-being.

Self-care is one of my commitments for 2018, and for that word I made a list of what that looks like for me. What does self-care look like for you?
